The way Faust becomes young again is of poetic simplicity. The puppetry scene which shows in a couple of minutes how Gretchen is seduced and betrayed, is a comic highlight. But also Fausts’ dance with an empty wedding dress when he mourns her death, is a beautiful scene. Sandra Kooke
