‘We are Faust’ – NRC Handelsblad

Director Henk Schut creates a fascinating unity of sound, design and space which the actors and singers share with the audience. There is no fourth wall: we are Faust, wearing his coat and literally follow him and Mefistofeles through the spaces in which the story unfolds itself without any spoke word.
Mefistofeles (…), played by the frightingly charismatic Ulf Garritzmann. Fausts inner conflict leads to a disturbance in the music: Bach is slowly pushed aside by Messiaens sensual Cinq rechants (1948).
It is not in the least because of the exceptionally singing Nederlands Kamerkoor that you’d wish you could spend more time with Faust to enjoy Mefisto’s seductions. Jochem Valkenburg
